As summer draws near, we all see more of our favorite citrus at our local supermarkets. In particular, I have been seeing a lot of grapefruits, which are definitely a personal fave. I have heard that the smell of grapefruit makes a woman appear young, I don’t know if that’s true, but when I eat one for breakfast I feel like I glow all day. They are wonderfully light and tart. This recipe gives them an added sweetness and brings out their flavor beautifully.
I am 2 months away from graduating law school and am really stressed out. My work load is smushing me and the FL Bar Exam is looming. I know I am not the only stressed out gal today, we could all use a little sunshine. Here’s a bite of it.
Ingredients:
1 grapefruit
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tbs butter
a few sprinkles of cinnamon
Directions:
Cut the grapefruit in half. Then, cut around the rind and down each segment, loosening each segment a little. Mix all the loose ingredients, with the exception of the cinnamon, in a bowl. Then, pile everything on the grapefruit halves. Preheat your broiler, then place your grapefruit in a pan or on a baking sheet. Sprinkle each half with cinnamon and broil them both for 3 minutes.
I am definitely bringing my work down to the pool today. I need to make this weekend a little more endurable. The best part is that breakfasts like this don’t stretch out bikinis, but do fill you with sunshine:]
That looks yummy!
I’ve never heard of broiled grapefruit before but it sounds wonderful.
It’s great with an unsweetened tea in the morning too. I really think you would love it!
I think I would, although just at the moment it’s making me wince a bit because I’ve got an ulcer on my tongue and anything acidic makes it sting. When that’s healed up though, I can imagine I would enjoy your grapefruit.
Oh my! That is probably due to your physical stresses lately. The body is a funny thing. I hope you get back to 100% soon though:]
Thank you, how kind. I hadn’t thought about what it was due to but you could be right.
Not a gigantic fan of citrus as a whole (except the lemon). Living in Florida until recently, I was plied with free fruit from so many sources that finally got so sick of them that I had to stop taking them because they’d just go bad.
That being said, I’d probably actually enjoy this recipe. There is something intriguing about the combo of brown sugar and grapefruit. This feels like it needs something crunchy to go with it though.. I don’t know what though.
The sugar gives it a little bit of a crunchy crust on the top. It is hard to really appreciate the textures through the pictures I posted.
I was kind of wondering if that would be the case (about the sugar).. I will have to take a stab at it and see if this recipe can reform my citrus hating ways. 🙂
Good luck! I hate raw carrots and no matter what I do, I cannot fix it. I hope you can get over your aversion.
Good luck with your finals and the impending BARBRI review course!
Thanks! I just paid for it too, you know it costs 3 grand now! Like I wasn’t under enough stress lol
MMMM!!! Love broiled grapefruits! It brings out the natural citrus in the grapefruit itself and surprisingly way less acidic then one would expect. Wish there was still some of this when I was over too! hehe
These look fab. Try not to get to stressed out. I know, easier said than done! Good luck with your exam.
Have a great weekend.
Regards Florence x
These look so yummy! Never had grapefruit broiled but sure it is delicious. This may sound dumb but do you eat it warm or wait for it to cool down?
That’s not silly:] Let it cool a minute, but eat it asap. It will cool down more as you eat it. My mom likes to chill it after. Really it is your preference.
I love grapefruit – especially as a substitute for lime in a Margarita 😉
We love broiled grapefruit. We only use a drizzle of honey or maple syrup. We’ll have to try it with the butter and brown sugar.
I use honey too, but when I put it on fish. I think you will like it this way:]
I just love this idea, so lovely! I love grapefruit too and now I think I will load up on them, along with anything else grapefruit….grapefruit perfume maybe? Try and de-stress and many well wishes are being sent your way!!!
I’ve blogged a similar grapefruit recipe and couldn’t agree more.. it’s a lovely treat! Good luck, I know you will do so well!! Anyone who can still keep up a blog and study is amazing, I think!
I broiled grapefruit once… I dunno if my grapefruit was less than satisfactory or if I’m just a grapefruit purist at heart, but I didn’t like it that much. But yours looks so pretty I’m inspired to try it again!
I actually don’t like grapefruit unless cooked. It took finding a couple good recipes to turn me around. Maybe you will change your mind too:]
Looks delicious. I think grapefruit can be too tart sometimes, so I think the added sweetness will really help with that!
I just tried this this morning. Delicious!
That’s great! I am always worried that people will add too much flour and they will end up too dry. Sounds like you’re a pro tho! Did you use vanilla, or change it up?
Nope, followed the recipe exactly. It was delicious, will post about it later this week. Do you mind if I link to your recipe?
That would be wonderful! I am so honored you tried a recipe of mine and are going to mention it:]
Lol for some reason I thought it was the ice cream scones haha the broiled grapefruit has no flour. Still honored. Thanks:]
LOL.. I wondered, but I figured you were talking about a more recent recipe on your site. It’s understandable. I tend to log recipes in my mind until I get the perfect chance to make them.
